Universal Statuary Corp of a man playing the British game Bowls. I brought a box of figurines and this fellow was embedded deep down in my box of goodies. I honestly didn’t know what this statue represented. My son-in-law is from the UK. He shared with me the man is playing a game called Bowls. Bowls, also called bowls, is an outdoor game which a ball (known as a bowl) is rolled toward a smaller stationary ball, called a Jack. The object is to roll one’s bowls so that they come to rest nearer to the Jack than those of an opponent.

The underside of the statue shoe has the words inscribed, Universal Statuary Corp, 1977.

Universal Statuary was an American, Chicago based statue manufacturer. Two brothers, Jack and Leo Lucchesi founded the company in 1930. The company produced piggy banks, plaques, and large store displays, including Indiana statues for Western themed restaurants. In 1950, they produced chalk ware lamps. In 1950 the company began working with experimental composites. They transitioned from chalkware to resins and came up with a material “FiberClad InFrangible”, and guaranteed it would not break or Chip. The company employed plastic in the 1970s. The Lucchesi family sold the company in the 1980s. So, this offering appear to be made of form of plastic. The statue does need a good cleaning. I didn’t want to disturb any paint. I’m leaving the cleaning to the new owner.

Condition: The sculpture has slightly paint loss on the hat and one shoe. Maybe a few nicks on one shoe. I say maybe because it could be a manufacturer flaw. Please view all pictures for a more vivid description of the item and any mentioned damage.
